Speedy Breedy SeaSure® has been developed as an integrated solution to test if ballast water has been treated in accordance with the IMO-D2, VGP and other standards. These standards set targets for ballast water treatment to reduce or completely remove certain bacteria, including E.coli, Intestinal Enterococci and toxigenic Vibrio cholerae, chemicals and phytoplankton. A salinity testing unit has also been integrated into the system, measuring salinity levels as per IMO requirements.
To test ballast water, ships need to use different methods and equipment for different types of contamination to determine if their ballast water is compliant before de-ballasting.
“The Convention will require all ships to implement a ballast water management plan. All ships will have to carry a Ballast Water Record Book and will be required to carry out ballast water management procedures to a given standard.” (Source IMO)
Speedy Breedy SeaSure® makes it easy to test treated ballast water on board ships, as it’s software package, Ballast Log, automatically collects data from multiple instruments and determines if treated ballast water is indicative of compliance and therefore safe for de-ballasting. Once the report has been compiled, the data is collated into a standard ballast water reporting form. This form includes all data required by port authorities, such as flag country, call signs as well as ballast water exchange records – amongst other parameters. The report is then able to be transmitted to relevant parties, such as Port Authorities, ballast water treatment companies, ship owners and ship management or insurance companies.
